Iconshot Beat Bells throttle via mlppp and a compatible ASUS/Buffalo/LINKSYS router.

are you getting slow speeds?
is your p2p downloads capped at 60 down and 30 up?
is your voip quality degraded?
are you pings very high in gaming servers?
do you want the full speed that is advertised when you signed up?

sounds like your a victim of bells internet throttle. here is how to get around it.

WHAT IS NEEDED?

COMPATIBLE ROUTER LIST. LINK1 LINK2

1 xCOMPATIBLE ROUTER ASUS/Buffalo/LINKSYS(check the list) (wrt54gl v1.x is available anywhere and is highly recommended)
recommended retailers:
http://www.compu2000.com/product/491/WRT54GL/Linksys/(RECOMMENDED!)

http://accessories.dell.com/sna/prod...1&sku=A0589443

1 x any adsl modem that can be put in full bridge bridge mode
OR
2 x any adsl modems in bridge mode. (optional)
recommended models and retailers are:
tplink 8810
http://www.cuttingedgecomputers.ca/shopexd.asp?id=3328(noob friendly)
tplink 8816
http://pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?prodID=6620(RECOMMENDED!)
Thomson 516
http://infonec.ca/site/main.php?module=detail&id=350362(advanced user recommended)

1 x DSL Line from Teksavvy(full support), Velcom(only on some erx's), and Acanac(single link only). wet or dry don't matter. static or normal.
OR
if you want more speed you can optionally get 2 x DSL Lines from ANY ISP wet or dry. again this is optional. i got 2 lines because i like speed.(1st dsl line must be tsi or velcom 2nd line can be any provider)

Recommended ISP: :
www.teksavvy.com

*************************************

you will have the least amount of problems with TSI and have the best customer service and technical support staff hands down.
check their reviews at dslreports.com, they always have a 94% or higher rating and are voted the #1 national ISP in Canada.

STEP 1.

physical setup.

1. connect dsl line 1 modem to wan port
2. connect dsl line 2 modem to lan port 1(if you have a second dsl line)
3. connect dsl line 3 modem to lan port 2(if you have a third dsl line)
4. connect your computer to any of the remaining ports to configure the router.
5. proceed to hardware configuration setup pages:

STEP 2.

hardware configuration setup.

http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...80&postcount=6

STEP 3.

TRIAL. TWEAK. TEST.

every home and small office has different needs, so it's probably best to tweak your routers settings around to fit those needs according to your setup.
some home require more wireless signal power. some need QoS installed to help load balance it's bandwidth. whatever those are it will require you to learn your new setup... use it and go through several trials to see its performance and evaluate what it's needs are.., tweak it to your needs and finally test it to see if it fits them to your liking. it sounds like a headache at first but once you get that hotspot it will be worth it.

some tips that personally use.

1. change your dns to static dns.
you can use any dns you want out there on the net. but for speed and performance the best dns options i have found are opendns.com 's servers and verizon's.
to change your routers standard isp dns's. in tomato navigate to BASIC --> NETWORK --> LAN --> STATIC DNS then input these addresses and click save

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
4.2.2.1

2. do you use wifi for gaming?
in gaming latency is important and wifi lag is a network issue. however some little tweaks can get you around this. try my personal wifi settings first and if they don't work out for your situation. tweak em a bit.
to change your tomato's wireless advanced settings navigate to ADVANCED --> WIRELESS --> SETTINGS then make these changes and click save

Afterburner = AUTO
AP Isolation = DISABLED
Authentication Type = AUTO
Basic Rate = ALL
Beacon Interval = 50
CTS Protection Mode = DISABLED
Distance / ACK Timing = 0 (NOTE. only use this setting if wifi adapters are close by each other. such as a ps3 beside a pc. if 2 or more adapters are side by side consider playing around with this setting.)
DTIM Interval = 1 (NOTE. same as the above note)
Fragmentation Threshold = 2307 (this should always match your rts threshold)
Frame Burst = ENABLE
Maximum Clients = 10 (NOTE. this setting determines the maximum amount of wifi clients to be active on your network at one time. the general rule is take the amount of wifi clients in your home and multiply by 2)
Multicast Rate = AUTO
Preamble = SHORT
RTS Threshold = 2307 (leave this alone if you have no issues with the default setting. if you notice your connection drops in and out every so often change this to 2307 for more stability)
Receive Antenna = AUTO
Transmit Antenna = B
Transmit Power mW = 84 (NOTE. this setting controls how much power is amplified into the routers antenna's increasing the range. do not set this higher then 170 unless you have modded your routers cpu and added a heatsink and fan.)
Transmission Rate = AUTO (NOTE. this setting controls the rate of speed over lan between clients. use this at your discretion)
WMM = DISABLED
No ACK = DISABLED

FAQ:

1. Q: is 2 dsl lines needed to beat the throttle with this setup.
A: no this solution works with 1 line from TSI or Velcom as well.
just make sureyou select "single link" in the "MultilinkPPP" option
in the router under "basic" then "network"

2. Q: will this combine the speeds of both lines?
A: yes, so if you get 2 5 meg lines and synch at 5 megs each you would get 10 megs down and 1 meg up. this is approx and speeds will vary on line conditions location. so it is reccomended to have both lines speed profiles set to the same speeds.

3. Q: is this hard to do?
A: NO if you can plugin a modem and configure your router. this is the same difficulty.

4. Q: will this reallly beat the throttle?
A: YES you will beat the throttle allowing you full speed up and down during throttling hours.

5. Q: will voip work properly?
A: YES

6. Q: will p2p apps like bittorent download and upload past 30kbps using this solution?
A: YES

7. Q: how fast will my dsl be if i want to switch from cable(or any other technology) to dsl?
A: speed is determined by the distance or wire from the DSLAM or CO to your location where the DSL modem will be. to get an idea of how far you are you can go here and enter your area code and the first 3 digits of your phone number.. click search then click on "Detailed Switch Info" on the right.
this will bring up a map of the location of your CO or DSLAM closest to you that you are connected to.

http://www.telcodata.us/telcodata/telco

8. Q: i got my DSL up but i am connecting very slow and/or is unstable. what is the prob?
A: if this line is less then 2 weeks old your line may still be under provisioning. or bell may have screwed up the provision proccess when you ordered your service from tsi or velcom. Call your ISP and have them raise to a stable and the fastest speed profile tat your line can handle.

9. Q: I play ps3/xbox and i also have VOIP. My brother/sister also downloads frequently. i want to use QoS(quality of service) to control how much speed each person on the network can use. how can i do this?
A: Click QoS on the left the put a check mark in enable QoS. and configure at your needs.
if you need more help you can read this tutorial and simple guide to help you.
http://www.decimation.com/markw/2007...ato-qos-setup/

10. Q: Something is not right i think i am doing something wrong. can you help me?
A: Please refer to the hardware configuration setup pages located here
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...=1#post8384218
and go over your setup. ensure you have followed the steps carefully. if you still feel you need additional help feel free to post a question in this thread.

Just to let you know, I went from DD-WRT to this Tomato firmware without having to load the stock Linksys firmware back on it. Of course just make sure you hold the reset button on the back of the router to reset everything.

But it does work & im on Teksavvy.

yeah but some versions of ddwrt when flashing straight to tomato will lock out the username and password fields and sometimes brick the router.
and access to the router can only be done via jtag or a telnet command.

i been getting many questions on RFD and DSLR regarding this. so i had to address all the questions in one spot.

btw my currently bonded speeds with 2 TSI lines , a wrt54gl v1.1 and 2 thomson 516 modems is 10048 kb/s down and 1509 kb/s up
no more throttle with full torrent speeds. and no more ventrilo or VOIP quality degradation or echo.

anything similar to this that can be done to Roger's throttling methods?

I have the GL and was thinking of installing custom fw on it.

Paul from Acanac has stated that they do indeep support MLPPP although I've yet to see an actual user stating they're using it in combination with the modded firmware yet

I meant that the title was misleading to current Bell users in thinking they could use this as well. Just the title.. not the actual thread content
